Edna Emily
Whimpey
1911 ~ 2010
Edna Emily Whimpey took the next step in her eternal progression as she left this mortal sphere at Alta View Hospital, on Feb. 12, 2010.She was born in Salt Lake City on September 7, 1911 to Brigham and Pearl Williams. She lived all her life in Salt Lake City and Sandy, Utah and was the fourth child in a family of four girls and five boys. She had a beautiful productive life, which was tested by surviving the influenza epidemic of 1917, a ruptured appendix and the Great Depression. She has been reunited with her husband, Lynn Whimpey and daughter, Edna Rosa. She has left us with loving memories and extraordinary wisdom. She never considered herself educated because she was not able to finish her schooling as a youth, but she had a marvelous knowledge of life and a keen sense of how to live and enjoy it.
She loved square-dancing, playing the piano, family vacations and sports. She bowled until she was 88 years old and was able to beat her sons most of the time.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints and enjoyed working in the Temple and spent 17 years of her life performing extraction work to provide names for temple work. She excelled at sewing and crocheting and was an excellent cook. She learned how to hand-dip chocolates and gave them to friends and family at Christmas.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Lynn L. Whimpey (LuAnne), James E. Whimpey (Dianne); 13 grandchildren and 30 great- grandchildren; sister Barbara Mason; sister-in-law Melba Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lynn; daughter Edna Rosa; brothers, Markus, Jack, Robert, Steve, Bobby and Eddie; sisters, Della and Ella Rose.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillcrest 6th Ward, 1165 East 8600 South. Friends and family may call from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the same location. Interment will be at the Sunset Lawn Cemetery and Mortuary 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.
